There's a special significane in the Jedi's choice of weapon. The ancient weapon, a melee weapon, has come to be a symbol of the Guardian Force Users. Few outside the Jedi attempt to use these weapons, let alone demonstrate proficiency with them.

Every Jedi is trained to use a lightsaber as part of his or her mastery in the Force, the weapon's energy blade helps the Jedi focus and attune himself to the Force. The Jedi apprentice's mentor provides the student with the first weapon. Later, as part of the apprentice's training, the student must create their own. This is a test of mechanical aptitude and a test of discipline along with a connection to the force. The Master always tells the Apprentice when they are ready to construct their Lightsaber.

A jedi must gather the parts needed to construct the weapon. These include: powercell, hand grip, activation plate, safety, belt ring, blade-length adjuster, emitter matrix, recharge socket, lens assembly, power conduit, and the focusing crystal (usually one to three). The most commonly used is Adegan, although others are sometimes used.

A Jedi must prepare the crystals, meditating and imbuing them with the Force. The Jedi must do three things, use their health to harmonize the self, with their wisdom they harmonize the force and with their knowledge they have harmonize the crystals.

After this is completed, the Jedi must construct their saber in the correct order, and almost no order is the same for constructing a saber. The force speaks to the individual and guides them as they construct it. When they are done, they have their own saber, and are one step closer to becoming one with the force.
