Meeting Minutes



September 9, 2009


1. Call To Order.

The Regular Meeting of September 9, 2009 was called to order at 7:01 p.m.

1A. Roll Call.

Present were Helen Smith, Perry Savoie and Peter Heebink.
Absent were Michael Vernon and Malcolm Taggart.
Approximately 3 observers.

2. Adoption Of Agenda.

Motion # 1.
Motion THAT the agenda be adopted as posted.
Moved by Perry Savoie, Seconded by Peter Heebink.
Vote: 3 in favour.
Motion # 1 Carried.

3. Adoption Of Previous Meeting Minutes.


Minutes of the August 12, 2009 meeting were read.

Motion # 2.
Motion THAT the minutes be accepted as read.
Moved by Perry Savoie, Seconded by Peter Heebink.
Vote: 3 in favour.
Motion # 2 Carried.

4. Discussions and Guest Speakers.


No discussions or guest speakers.

5. Report From the Chair & Correspondence.

No report or correspondence.

6. Committee Reports.

AYC:
Perry Savoie reported that there would be an AYC planning session on September 26/27 that he would be attending.

Motion # 3.
Motion THAT Council pays for Savoie’s expenses to attend the AYC planning session on September 26/27.
Moved by Peter Heebink, Seconded by Helen Smith.
Vote: 2 in favour. 1 abstained.
Motion # 3 Carried.


Savoie also reported that AYC would be sponsoring a course called “Building The Answer Network” for all elected officials in Yukon. The workshop will take place in Haines Junction and registration can be found online at AYC’s website.
Community Society: Greg Newton reported that the Volunteer Appreciation party and potluck would be on September 19th. He requested nominations for a person or couple to be recognized for their outstanding contribution to the community. Newton also reported on various scheduled activities at the community centre including the upcoming flea market and craft sale.
FireSmart: nil report.
Solid Waste Management Society: Lloyd Atkinson reported that someone had been dumping outside the gate on a closed day. He stated that he has received no response from Community Services when requesting signage for the transfer station and asked for help from Council in asking Community Services for adequate signage for the transfer station, including a sign for the gate stating the fine for illegal dumping.

Motion # 4.
Motion THAT Council write to Community Services to stress the need for adequate signage for the transfer station and specifically a sign for the gate stating the fine for illegal dumping.
Moved by Perry Savoie, Seconded by Peter Heebink.
Vote: 3 in favour.
Motion # 4 Carried.

EMO Committee:
Nil report.

7. Old Business.

Army Beach Well:
Perry Savoie reported that construction work on the well would now be delayed until spring.

8. New Business and Question Period.

Council Elections:
Returning Officer for Marsh Lake, Marg Dunn, reported that work was proceeding for the upcoming election. She had nomination papers for anyone wishing to run in the next election. A nomination paper requires 5 signatures and would need to be filed with her by September 24th. She would be posting ads in the newspapers and on the community bulletin boards.

9. Adjournment.

Acting Chair Smith adjourned the meeting at 7:36 p.m.
