Taking a self-defense class is a wonderful idea, not only for survivors, but for every woman. Instructors will tell you that this cannot replace therapy, but knowing how to defend yourself can eliminate a great deal of fear and worry. I have listed below links for helpful classes and a few books (some of which you can find for as cheap as $2 on Amazon.com!) The best I have seen so far is Model Mugging, but please be careful with this one as it can be extremely triggering for those who have been in difficult situations. I have not yet worked up the courage to take one of their classes, but I have read the book, "Defend Yourself!" and it has definately been helpful to me. The books and classes are designed to help you not only escape from dangerous situations, but also boost inner strength and confidence and tone your muscles.
You can also contact your local community college for information on classes they may offer, but those under 16 will need to find an alternative as most community colleges require you to be at least 16 to participate (depending on your location).
