1. How did gaoth anair start up and why? Well I was messing around with other blackmetal and dark ambient projects, so I thought ah what the heck, I'll start another one! But Gaoth Anair seemed to be the most interesting concept out of them all, so I continued it. 2. What influences does your music have? Mainly an earlier style of blackmetal from around the '95 era of atmospheric BM, when synths were used as an atmosphere rather than an instrument, before all this symphonic stuff got outta hand! There's also an influence of medieval music as well. 3. How would you describe your music? I like the music to reflect a darker and more obscure sound. Basically raw, atmospheric bm. 4. how do you feel about black metal and why? Since I was 14 I've been listening to this style of music, and it's surrounding genres, now at the ripe old age of 22, I'm still headbanging. When I first heard it, I just knew it'd be a style I'd like to compose. As for the scene, I never bothered to get very involved in it, I find alot of the people get into it because of the image, or the ridiculous pseudo-satanic hype, and there's always a resurrection of new mall-metallers gone blackmetal with every second release of Terrorizer mag. The only reason I enjoy it is because of the music and some aspects of the culture, particularly the references to the middle ages, ancient times and mythology. 5. you also have a tair nu fuin project why is that? I have another project? Whoa... which one is this? haha. Well I first started out composing medieval sounding music, when I was 14 I'd composed some of the sounds you're hearing today from TNF, and I thought I'd put a name to all my compositions - some of it's very Middle Earth, LOTR inspired. Embarrasingly enough I submitted alot of my works to Wingnut Films in hopes to get TNF on the soundtrack for LOTR! haha... oops. But Taur Nu Fuin just expresses alot of my concern for the environment, nature, medieval revival and more political stuff like animal rights and veganism. 6. how did your recording before do and how were they recorded? Mostly at home, on the computer, it takes me a while to sort it all out. 7. how do you get that wonderful black metal vocals do you use any teckneqes? Well I rip out my throat, scrub it with a wire brush, grind broken glass into my vocal chords, put it back in upside down and begin vomiting lyrics about forests and winter and night time, quite simple really ;) 8. how do your family and friends feel about your music? Oh they absolutely love it, my Mom walks round the house in corpse paint and Dad inverts the newspaper and pulls the goats at the table when I put it on during breakfast. Jokes! Um. I've never really asked them or shown my family, I doubt they'd be interested. Most of my friends are into metal and hardcore so it's all good. 9. will your be releasing a full length album or a new release for gaoth anair and if so when should it be released about? I'll be releasing it sometime... Not sure exactly when, at the moment I'm eyeing up Sneeuwstorm Productions in the Netherlands, but I have to complete the vocal tracks and mixdowns yet. We'll look around November for a release, though I've said I'd release it 2 years ago, hah. Good things take time... 10. what do you think gaoth anair be like 5 years from now and what do you want from it? I'll be in Hollywood with lots of money and cars and ladies. Blackmetal ist Greed. Actually I doubt it'll last 5 years, but hopefully by then I've made more than 8 songs, and of course make some good friends along the way. Cheers for the interview! Best of luck.
