70s invasion 'SIDE by SIDE' section 2 * 70s Glam rock musical comedy *

here is the end of the film review of SIDE by SIDE -

understand the clubs were in fact SIDE by SIDE, only a thin wall separting the 2, so as the wall breaks and people begin to spill thru both sides, now no one is playing music, RODNEY and especially MAX stare in disbelief, everywhere people are punching each other, even a couple of gals starts punching out the guys, this chaotic fight goes on for what seems like several minutes, all of a sudden, somewhere in the fight RODNEY and VIOLET get it on for a minute, and suddenly JULIE and GARY meet at the one of the spot where the wall is broken and one can see thru to each club, they greet and give each other a big kiss, it is a heartwarming moment in the picture, the wall broken down symbolizes an end, and A NEW BEGINNING, let's say the 2 are able tofind a few seconds of comfort and reunited love within the midst of chaos....

RODNEY and VIOLET also slap some guys behind the piano and they drop, in all the chaos RODNEY stops and ponders what to do....... a bit later RODNEY decides to go over thru the wall onto SOUND CITY's stage,VIOLET says 'where are u goin' Rodney, don't leave me' he then begins playing a simple piano medley of 'Side by Side'....... all of a sudden MUD appears out of nowhere and begins tuning up, MUD and RODNEY begin to play together a rockin' version of 'SIDE by SIDE', and HELLO are on the other stage in the NUGGET playing along slowly, all of a sudden everyone looks at the beautiful music coming thru the chaos, MAX stares and sees RODNEY playing with MUD and is astonished, but then realizes they are saving the day, everyone stops fighting and starts dancing, and singing along to the great song being played..........MAX is together with JULIE, and GARY, and CRUMB appears and says to say that he will close them both down, MAX says u can' t because they are now one club 'according to the old bylaws ye residents of Sludgely shall only have one club, and now we are one clubby' ! and one club only so they will continue together as one club.....Gary says your right ! Julie tells uncle Max she loves him , gives him a kiss, Crumb mumbles something about getting Lady Lashes phone # and walks away....

GARY, JULIE, and MAX jion RODNEY, VIOLET, and MUD onstage and dance along with the crowd to the best finale ever witnessed in a musical, yes this beats 'ROCKY HORROR',, 'ROCK-n-ROLL HIGH SCHOOL', 'WEST SIDE STORY' have to say.........what a GREAT film ! IN FACT THIS IS THE BEST FILM OF ALL-TIME !, IT's THAT GOOD !

HELLO performing a number in the film

ok it's not the Greatest film of all time, but comes close, have to say D.O.A. the film on punk bands like the SEX PISTOLS, the WIZARD OF OZ, and 'WOODSTOCK' rate highly so this film runs a close 4th or 5th, we'll say it's in the best top 5 of all time for cimnema films.........at the end on comes a caption that says both clubs rejioned and were named GOLDEN CITY within the town of SLUDGELY, we'll be back soon to mention some credits, it did say the movie was filmed in MIddlesex studio in Sludgely..........

the breaking of the wall represented much more than the clubs falling apart, by this end, a new beginning was born so to speak, watch closely and u can notice a spiritual awakening,............the wall represents division in society of those who live side by side , but can't get along, it wasn't until chaos, and anarchy hit and came to the clubs, that the 2 realized they were much better together as ONE, this moment is more than mere words can express youwill have to see the film for yourself, it is a shame this film has been neglected over the yrs....

MUD drummer DAVE MOUNT had one of the starring roles as FLIP

one interesting scene in which the actors are speaking perfect sounded syllables which all sound quite nice is the card game scene, MAX, VIOLET, and RODNEY, are all playing an old Englsih ame called HAPPY FAMILIES, MAX asks VIOLET, ' do u have master bun the baker's son' ? VIOLET replies ' no have u got mrs. chips the carpenter's wife', MAX folds, for more info on this English card game, see this link -

there are small moments in the film such as this that make the film all the more enjoyable, like a good film some parts give one the sense of deja vu ~

BRUCE BERESFORD did a great job directing 'SIDE by SIDE'...........

ENDING scene with STEPHANIE dE SYKES, BILLY BOYLE, TERRY THOMAS, and FRANK THORTNON

in this ending scene JULIA ( STEPHANIE ), and GARY ( BILLY BOYLE ) were kissing in the background just as MUD, and RODNEY ( BARRY HUMPHRIES) came onto to save the day and began to play 'SIDE by SIDE', CRUMB ( FRANK THORTNON ) informs GARY that he'll close both clubs down for this !! MAX NUGGET ( TERRY THOMAS ) informs CRUMB that he can't do that because now since the wall has broken they've become one club ! MAX NUGGET and GARY shake hands, MAX's niece JULIA kisses him, and the 3 run out holding hands and dance the nite away with the rest of the crowd, what an ending !!

The Anarchist Guidebook

by Pete Winslow

After you pay your taxes, buy all your licenses, submit to the draft and spend 40 hours a week at the office, you've still got maybe half an hour a day for anarchy.

Some of the things you can do are not read the newspaper, not buy any advertised product,

jaywalk, play the accordian badly on street corners, write a subversive children's book, eat something inedible, like treebark erasers or dynamite go into a supermarket with various obscure items and place them on the shelves,

paint meat different colors organize protest marches at classic music stations to demand top 40 tunes and enlist support for all candidates who campaign in Uncle Sam costumes.

After you have more experience with anarchy you can improvise.

'NEVER TOO YOUNG TO ROCK'

this film starring MUD, the GLITTER BAND, the RUBETTES, and guest appearance by SLIK, and BOB KERR's WHOOPPEE BAND, SALLY JAMES and others,.....came out in '74, prior to 'SIDE by SIDE', allthough the musical performances are where the film's strength lies, it's obvious the other parts of the film were poorly concieved......the scenario is that rock music, and rock groups have been banned from television, so 2 dorks , one named MR. ROCKBOTTOMS set about in a Group Detctor Van with built in radar and frequencies to search the country side of england to find groups who will play in a big concert they have planned in order to save the young folks' imagination, or something like this,

the acting by these 2 is so bad, it makes many parts of the film seem like a bad episode of DOCTOR WHO gone from bad to worse, in the beginning MUD pulls up to the Kopp Kafe on motorcyles and begin to play 'THE CAT CREPT IN', and 'TIGER FEET', great performances, outside they encounter the 2 non-heros and ask for their help with their plan to save rock music, so MUD agrees to fend of crazies who try to attack them by shooting darts and hitting them in the head, so many gangs try and attack the vehicle along the way only to get sidetracked by MUD slowing down their advances by hitting them with darts, silly really, some of the costumes remind you of the BEATLES 'MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR' era, others of bad circus rejects, the highlights are of course the musical performances, allthough there seems to be a clear lack of females in the film, 20 minutes or so into the film the 2 herose enter a haunted house where carzy things happen and 4 females dressed all in white dresses dance around them in a spooky manner, a bit later they jion up with SALLY JAMES and some gals, SALLY looks great dressed in her silver glam space suit ! they all dance to the GLITTER BAND doing 'SHOUT IT OUT'.....

another highlight and perhaps the most interesting part is when they encounter SLIK performing their glam hit 'THE BOOGIEST BAND IN TOWN', afterall this single came out in '74 and was a GREAT one ( later a better version was coveed by ARROWS )......very interesting is the band SLIK, the singer has long hair as does the drummer, to the singer's left the other guitarist has very short hair, and a pencil thin mustache, his looks remind u of RON MAEL's somewhat with his Sliked backed hair, the keyboardist aslo has very short hair, this would be uncommon for a rock band in '74

eventually everyone makes it to the big concert after going thru various circumstances of being chased and harrassed by gangs , if thats what u wanna call them.........and so the GLITTER BAND and RUBETTES take turns playing their hits 'LET's GET TOGETHER AGAIN','JUKEBOX JIVE', 'JUST FOR U', etc, till MUD comes in and does a Glam-Slam version of 'ROCKET' !!, then into a rousing version of'DYNAMITE', then all 3 bands come on and perform the title track 'YOUR NEVER TOO YOUNG TO ROCK'....MR ROCKBOTTOMS who put down rock music during the film comes out with a tuba towards the end and plays along with the bands.....GREAT performances here, but where is the audience ? where are the girls ? a general lack of females in the film and pointless hijinks by the 2 heros makes this film rather forgettable film, allthough the musical performances are priceless,

so after viewing it once, the 2nd time fast forward your vcr to get to the good parts where the bands are playing that special brand of u.k. glam that we all consider priceless......

more info and credit info to come, u can see a picture of this soundtrack on our gateway 2 somewhere......
