v. 5 False christs
v. 6 Wars and rumors of wars
v. 7 Nation against nation [ ethnos: race against race]
Kingdom against kingdom –
“nation against nation and kingdom against kingdom” is a Hebrew idiom for a world war
v. 9 Followers of Christ delivered into tribulation
- They will be killed
- They will be hated by all nations on account of His name
v. 10 Many [followers] will fall away
- Deliver up one another
- Hate one another
v. 11 False prophets will mislead
v. 12 Lawlessness will increase
- People’s love grows cold
v. 14 Gospel of the Kingdom preached in the whole world for a witness to all nations
v. 15 You will see the Abomination of Desolation spoken of by Daniel the Prophet
- Then flee
- Woes
o To those with child
o To those nursing babies
o To those who are in winter [half the world]
GREAT TRIBULATION [v. 21]
- Unless those days cut short, no life would have been saved
- For the sake of the elect, those days shall be cut short
- Do not be deceived
v. 29 immediately after the tribulation of those days
- Signs in the heavens
o Sun will be darkened
o Moon will not give its light
o Stars will fall from the sky
o Powers of heaven will be shaken
v. 30 Sign of Son of Man will appear in the sky
- All the tribes of the earth shall mourn
- See the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky with power and great glory
v. 31 He will send forth His angels with the sound of a great Trumpet
- They will gather together the elect
o From the four winds [earth]
o From one end of the sky to the other [heaven]
Parable of the Fig Tree [v. 32]
- When its branch is already tender
- When it puts forth its leaves
- You know that summer is near
v. 32 Even so you too, when you see all these things
- Recognize that He is near, right at the door
- This generation will not pass away until all these things take place
v. 36 But of that day and hour, no one knows
- Not the angels
- Nor the Son
- But the Father alone
v. 37 Coming of the Son of Man will be like the days of Noah
- Eating and drinking
- Marrying and giving in marriage
- Until the day that Noah entered the Ark
- They did not understand until the Flood came and took them all away
v. 40 - Two men in the field, one is taken, one is left
- Two women grinding corn, one is taken, one is left
v. 42 Therefore BE ON THE ALERT
- For you do not know which day your Lord is coming
v. 44 For this reason, YOU BE READY TOO
- For the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will
