The Meaning To Marilyn Manson And his songs;Marilyn Manson since his birth has been consumed in the mystery of the world. His connections with God, Satan, Marilyn Monroe, Charles Manson and Children, have made their way into his songs and the things Marilyn Manson does. In this article I will explain the connections between his songs and the band members themselves. Lets start off with Charles Manson. The picture to the left is a picture of Twiggy with a big X on his forehead. Charles Manson and the other females of the family did this during their murder trials. Twiggy as well as the other members have been know to do this. Other occurences deal with Marilyn Mansons earlier work, such as the titles of his demo tapes. They are "Big Black Bus" (something that the Manson Family drove) and "The Family Jams" (the band Charles Manson had). Also int the beggining of Marilyn Mansons demo version of Dope Hat, a sound clip of Charles Manson saying "Manson Family was a music group! The music group we had was called the family jams. And all the girls played int the music group and all the guys sang in the music group. It had nothing to do with a cult! It was a music group!" If you own "Portrait of an American Family" you might know that part of "My Monkey" was taken from a Family Jams song Mechanical Man. Other songs, performed live, are "Helter Skelter" and "Strawberry Patches". "I am the God of Fuck" is a line of Charles Mansons. Then there is the obvious, that every Manson fan should know, that the Manson part of the pseudonym comes from Charles Manson. The album "Smells Like Children" is not a reference to Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvona as some has speculated. "Smells Like Children" is a take off of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and the book Perfume by Patrick SÜskind. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang because as on the show there was a guy named the child catcher who would sniff out children from the audience. People would tell little Manson (as a child) that he looked like him. Perfume because it is a book about a guy who makes perfume out of children. In the song "Organ Grinder" clips of The Child Catcher from Chitty Chitty was spotted saying "Come and get your lollipops" and "If there are children here, my friend, you will die!" Another reference to Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is the song S---- Chicken Gang Bang although nothing in the song has anything to do with sex with a chicken, gang bangs, or even Chitty Chitty itself. "Diary of a Dope feind" is a book. Further more "Smells Like Children" is a Parody of Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory. Even the song "Everlasting C--- Sucker" was a perody of the Everlasting Gobstoper. On "Portrait of an American Family", the songs Dope Hat, Misery Machine, Get Your Gunn, Prelude (the Family Trip) and Dogma all dserve a further look. On "Dope Hat", "presenting the great Hoo Doo" is heard. The great Hoo Doo is Tte evil magician who tyrannizes the Hat People in Sid & Marty Krofft's 1970s TV series, Lidsville. This show seems very close to Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. "Misery Machine" is a reference to Scooby Doo. On the show the van that they drove was called "The Mistery Machine." The rest of the seems only to be about the paranormal that Scooby Doo encounters. Even "the abbey of Thelema" is a reference to a church of magick (thats how you spell the word when you are talking about real magic) in the song. Get your Gunn" is not about guns, but about a person - Dr. Robert Gunn, who was killed by pseudo pro-life activists because he had performed abortions. "Prelude (an the family trip)" is an exerpt from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (the boat ride part). "Burn (you fuckers!)" in "Dogma" is from Mink Stole as Connie Marble in John Waters' Pink Flamingos. Complete line "Burn, you fucker, burn!" is in the demo version. |
