I am taking classes at this school for the summer, so this one holds a special place in my heart. ;)
I can sympathize with your culture shock at NC State. I graduated from there in 1992, and being from Pennsylvania it took me a while to learn to adjust to everything. It should start to cool off some time in early October, though don't expect much snow as in the four years I was there it snowed about five times and the most we had once was three inches.
I lived in Turlington Hall for my freshman year, but for the other three years I lived in University Towers on Friendly Drive, behind the Hardees at the corner of Hillsborough Street and Dan Allen Drive. University Towers was new when I moved in back in 1989, but it may be showing its age now. Anyway, I had heard only some rumors of ghosts and hauntings on campus while I was there, but nothing definite. A female student jumped off the DH Hill library back around 1986 before I came there, and supposedly people occasionally see a vague outline of a figure on the roof. The Bell Tower is also reported to be haunted by a worker who was killed in its construction, though I don't know anything else about it. NC State is mostly a pretty new campus so there probably are few spirits around, though some of the houses in Raleigh as so old that I'm sure they have a ghost or two (the Governor's mansion is supposed to be haunted, for example).
Anyway, best wishes at my old alma mater. I couldn't wait to move back to Pennsylvania after I graduated, but I did enjoy my time in Wolfpack country. Take it easy!
