What is a Haiku?
A Haiku is a three line poem that contains 5 syllables
in the first line, 7 syllables in the second, and 3
syllables in the last line. Most Haikus house deep, thought-
provoking emotions or wise observations about life. But
that doesn't mean you can't write about your coffeepot.
Where to begin?
Anywhere. What are you doing now? What are you looking at?
What are you hopes? Fears? It doesn't matter because
whatever you think and whatever you feel is the best
topic to write your Haiku.
What about Structure?
Don't worry about it now. Write down your short sentences
that come to mind. Then remove superfluous words,
add synonyms to replace words so that it fits the
5,7,5 format.
Most of all, have fun and enjoy writing them!
