Becket
1964

Richard Burton, Peter O'Toole
Director: Peter Glenville
Writer: Edward Anhalt, from the play by Jean Anouilh
Note: Edward Anhalt won an Oscar for this screenplay.

Setting: England in the 12th century

Cast:
Richard Burton.....................Becket
Peter O'Toole.......................Henry II
John Gielgud, Donald Wolfit, Martita Hunt, Pamela Brown, Felix Aylmer.
The Story:
Based loosely - or at least, inaccurately - on the historical friendship between Henry II of England and his friend Thomas Becket, whom he made Archbishop of Canterbury.   Once Archbishop, Becket discovers he has a conscience, and his love/hate relationship with the king becomes inflammatory.
Why I like it:
It's about the people at the root of history, and the consequences of moral thought.  Or maybe just a will-written movie about two fascinating men, portrayed by two fascinating actors.
