This zine is because as kids, and especially as GAY kids, we aren't treated as people. Therefore Shirley M. West, Former Editor and Grand-High-Empress of the Zine, concieved the idea for JAILBAIT. To get a wider scope she asked me, a bi-sexual male named Angel Sayan (Deputy Editor & Boy-Wonder), to join her. Shirley left to concentrate on her own zine, but she still calls in from time to time, like to boss on Charlie's Angels
I want this zine to be an open forum, to which anyone can contribute. You don't even have to be gay,(but it helps) just gay friendly. I want to reach kids who think they're alone, that nobody knows what they're going through. I want to reach the kid in the closet, who thinks he can't talk to anyone, because they might "out" him. I, at the very least, want this to be an entertaining & honest zine for kids like us, the overlookied, jailbait, unapologetic queer youth (*queer as in les/bi/gay/trans, because it's just easier, and no one feels left out). I also want to unite the gay/gay-friendly people from around the world and discuss everything from poetry to why one sock is alwyas missing after doing the laundry.
Now. This zine was originally called Jailbait, founded by Shirley West/Violet Nova and Andrew Sayan, shown below **picture coming soon**:
Three Issues into her new venture, Shirley West/Violet decided that she grew weary of a double identity, and decided to concentrate on her own zine, Remorsecodeblues. That gave Angel free reign.
He soon decided that it was time to rename the zine, to better reach the 12-19 crowd. This he did. After careful deliberation, he named this zine "Bent". Not after some Rob Thomas song, but because he saw "Beautiful Thing", a movie that refers to queer youth as 'bent'; and because it's just fun to say "I'm going to get Bent now..." (which is a reference to the zine...of course!!) After unsuccessfully trying to mail Issue Six of Jailbait, (not yet "officially BENT") he decided to save money and do the whole thing on-line, and here we are today. Still attempting to get on-line. That's it! Read on by clicking the links above or below!
