This special issue, with its devotion to place, has been a mammoth undertaking for me, and has taken me far longer to finish than I originally thought. I am pleased with the result and hope that you find this a rewarding read.

These pages are packed with surprise, greatness, beauty, humility, detail, desire... I could go on, but I'll leave you with a poem by Cold Mountain:

#106

The layered bloom of hills and streams
kingfisher shades beneath rose-colored clouds
mountain mist soaks my cotton bandana
dew penetrates my palm-bark coat
on my feet are traveling shoes
my hand holds an old vine staff
again I gaze beyond the dusty world
what more could I want in that land of dreams
—(translation by Red Pine)

Look for the BFR list of favorite poetic collections to appear later this year.
