Special Edition II

05•25•2000
•Chathouse `Zine•

Editors Note: This is our second special edition and I felt I should explain how we do the special editions here at the Zine. Someone should email me and tell me that they would like to do one, not that they would like me to do one. I don't want to sound rude, but I'm too busy, I'm not doing these all the time, I don't have time. However, if any of you would like to DO a special edition this is what you could/should do:
1.Send us an Email and include a reply addy, the reason for the special edition and the date it's to be posted.
2.Begin gathering everything that you want included, especially if you will be depending on others for input.
3.You will recieve a reply email that will include ideas & instructions. AND if you do not know HTML I will help as much as I can.
--Please understand that if I had the spare time to do so I would be willing to put it together for you, but with 2 jobs and 3 HP's and the zine I just can't make the time, especially not if I ever expect to have time for myself. Thank you...Michigan Storm™

William Shakespeare, Sonnet CXVI

Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
O no! it is an ever-fixed mark
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken.
Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle's compass come:
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.

Elizabeth Barrett Browning, from Sonnets from the Portuguese XIV

If thou must love me, let it be for nought
Except for love's sake only. Do not say
'I love her for her smile—her look—her way
Of speaking gently,—for a trick of thought
That falls in well with mine, and certes brought
A sense of pleasant ease on such a day'— For these things in themselves, Beloved, may
Be changed, or change for thee,—and love, so wrought,
May be unwrought so. Neither love me for
Thine own dear pity's wiping my cheeks dry,—
A creature might forget to weep, who bore
Thy comfort long, and lose thy love thereby!
But love me for love's sake, that evermore
Thou mayst love on, through love's eternity.

With a little undercover work LGE™ managed to get a copy of the entire service so through this we may visualize the wedding ourselves. Please understand that due to the length I have taken a few things out =( sorry.
THE MARRIAGE SERVICE

The bride (Claire) and her groom (Darren) will enter the church (shown left).

"When two people are at one in their inmost hearts they shatter even the strength of iron or of bronze. And when two people understand each other in their inmost hearts their words are sweet and soft like the fragrance of orchids." (I Ching)

There will be a Hymn then the congregation shall sit.

"We have gathered as friends and family of Darren and Claire to witness their joining in that estate of marriage which men and women have entered responsibly and joyfully, with full anticipation of its faithful keeping. Before us these two shall profess their love for each other, the blending of their lives, and their comradeship of mind and heart. As two separate beings they shall create one home in which each in his and her own way shall become more complete because of the other. From joys and sorrows shared shall they grow in love and loyalty; from any pain given and forgiven they shall grow in mutual understanding. What this chapel now celebrates, and the state makes legal, these two shall henceforth make real." (J Donald Johnston)

Declaration of Intent
"Darren and Claire, since free consent is an essential part of a life-long relationship, before you make your promises I am going to ask you to indicate that you will make those promises freely, without coercion, and unreservedly, and that you will do your very best to respect one another as individual persons."

Minister:"Darren will you take Claire in marriage, in laughter and tears, in health and illness, in success and failure, in conflict and tranquillity, in doubt and trust as your wife?"
Darren:"I will."
Minister:"Claire will you take Darren in marriage, in laughter and tears, in health and illness, in success and failure, in conflict and tranquillity, in doubt and trust as your husband?"
B®e®:"I will."

DECLARATION OF NO IMPEDIMENT

"Darren and Claire, you are required by law to make declarations that there are no legal reasons why you may not marry."
Darren:"I do solemnly declare that I know not of any lawful impediment why I, Darren may not be joined in matrimony to Claire."
Claire:"I do solemnly declare that I know not of any lawful impediment why I, Claire may not be joined in matrimony to Darren."
CHARGE TO THE GUESTS

"Family and friends gathered here to witness the vows of this couple, I charge you to stand by Darren and Claire, and make them the continuing gift of their love and prayers."
READINGS

(from I Corinthians 13)
"though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not love, I am become [as] sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have [the gift of] prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed [the poor], and though I give my body to be burned, and have not love, it profiteth me nothing. Love suffereth long, [and] is kind; love envieth not; love vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not its own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Love never faileth: but whether [there are] prophecies, they shall fail; whether [there are] languages, they shall cease; whether [there is] knowledge, it shall vanish away. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see through a glass darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. And now abideth faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these [is] love."

(from Kahlil Gibran)
"Let there be spaces in your togetherness. And let the winds of the heavens dance between you. Love one another, but make not a bond of love: Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls. Fill each other's cup but drink not from one cup. Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf. Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each of you be alone. Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music. Give your hearts but not into each other's keeping. For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts. And stand together yet not too near together: For the pillars of the temple stand apart, And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other's shadow."

PRAYER

"Great Spirit, we give thanks for the supreme gift of love, and in particular fore the love that has grown between Darren and Claire. We give thanks for the ideal of marriage, with its friendship, its trust and sharing, and we ask for your help and guidance in making that ideal a reality. Let there be no guilt or bitterness over what has gone before, and may your healing forgiveness clear the way for those who would build anew. Come among us with joy, O Spirit, and may your blessing be upon us in all that we do and say today. Amen." (Silent reflection)

PRESENTATION OF THE BRIDE

(The congregation shall stand) "Who pledges the goodwill of the families of this couple?"
Response: "I do."

EXCHANGE OF PROMISES

"Darren and Claire, you have come together in love. Now, facing each other and joining your hands and before these people, make your marriage promises to each other."
Claire

I Claire Do take thee Darren
To be my wedded husband.
Secure in the knowledge
That you will be my constant friend,
My faithful partner in life
And my one true love.
On this special day
I give to you
In the presence of God
And all those in attendance
My promise to stay by your side as your wife
In sickness and in health
In joy and in sorrow
as well as through the good times and the bad.
I promise to love you without reservation
Comfort you in times of distress
Encourage you to achieve all your goals
Laugh with you and cry with you
Grow with you in mind and in spirit
Always be open and honest with you
And cherish you for as long as we both shall live.
Darren

I Darren Do take thee Claire
To be my wedded wife.
Secure in the knowledge
That you will be my constant friend,
My faithful partner in life
And my one true love.
On this special day
I give to you
In the presence of God

Honour and cherish you
Provide for your needs as best I can
Protect you from harm
Comfort you in times of distress

Always be open and honest with you
And cherish you for as long as we both shall live.

Then they will exchange rings as a token of their promises.
"Now that Darren and Claire have given themselves to each other by solemn vows, let us recognize them as husband and wife. May you be so joined together that nothing shall ever part you."
"God the best maker of all marriages, combine your hearts in one." (Shakespeare)
"You may now kiss the bride."
PRAYER

"We pray for concord and creativity as well as for love and laughter in the life together of these two; and where there is pain, may there be peace that passes not away. We pray for joy that they will share with other people; and for their home: may it be a temple for that which is beautiful and good and true. As they share the richer experiences of life, so may their hearts and minds and souls be knit ever more closely together. Yet may their bounds of sympathy strengthen their separate personalities. We pray for courage for them when the road is rough, and for humility for them when fortune favours them. May they carry the past gratefully with them in all the years of their time together, and with an equal measure of hope ever face the future unafraid. Amen."
There will be a hymn and then this blessing:
May the road rise up to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face
May the rain fall soft upon your fields
And until we meet again
May God hold you in the hollow of her hands.
I just would like to express me deepest wishes to Claire and her soon to be husband. May they find a life together filled with much joy and happiness. May their love fill their days and nights with supreme happiness and contentment. Claire, you deserve so very much and I hope this will be the new beginning that you so need and want. My thoughts and prayers will be with you on this most important step and occasion in your life. I wish I knew poetry so I may express my feelings to you much more eloquently, but in my simple way I just want to say that I hope you have found one that has enough love in him for you to begin to love yourself as deeply. You are a beautiful woman that will be even more radiant on your wedding day. Congratulations, and may you have many years to discover all the joys there are to be had being married and may you both never forget to tell one another that you love each other everyday. For love is a precious thing to not be wasted or tossed aside so lightly. Know that on your special day I will be there with you in your heart wishing you I could ever wish such a beautiful person such as yourself.

*MANY congratulations hugs and kiss on the cheek*
Tanya aka Velvet
