Doherty really came alive for Spurs for the Premier League season 00-01'. And then disaster struck when Gary broke his leg against Torquay United in the Worthington Cup in September 01'. This ruled his out for most if not all of season 01-02'. Gary is coming back to form, and the Republic has the option of using him as a utility player.

Gary can play in both defensive and striking positions. At 22 his career has potentially just begun. Gary made his debut for the Republic of Ireland 26-04-00, Friendly v Greece, Lansdowne Road (0-1).
