JASON MCATEER - Current Domestic Club,Sunderland A.F.C.
Hard to believe that this man was once a promising graphic design artist! Jason began his career with semi professional outfit Marine in the Lancashire league. When he was twenty his uncle in the USA advised him of a chance of a soccer scholarship for four years, all expenses paid. Needless to say he jumped at the chance. Jason briefly returned home to Liverpool to collect some more belongings and decided to catch another game with Marine against Bolton youth squad.
It was here that Phil Neal, Bolton boss at the time saw him and offered him a one years contract. That was 1991. In 1994 Jason was in the USA World cup finals with the Republic of Ireland.
Three years from non-league to the World Cup? You decide. A prodigy?
