John Thompson is a product of Nottingham Forest's youth academy and has been capped by the Republic of Ireland at under 15, 16, 17 and 18s level.
He is equally adept in defence or midfield and has made the breakthrough into Forest's first team during the 2001/02 season.
He was the First Division's youth player of the year in 2000. He made his international debut against Canada at the end of the 2003.
