Irish Abroad New Years Day 01/01/03

Stephen Reid netted his second goal in two games when he levelled the scores in Millwall's game with Ipswich Town. Matt Holland’s Ipswich then responded with three more goals to ensure maximum points {4-1} for the Tractor Boys.

Republic of Ireland Under 21 defender John Thompson opened the scoring for Nottingham Forest only for Walsall to salvage a point before the end {1-1}.

In Div II Under 21 international Ben Burgess scored a penalty as Stockport County drew {1-1} with Port Vale.

And in the Premiership,Leeds United Irish contingent Gary Kelly and Ian Harte helped the Yorkshire men to victory {2-0} over Jeff Kenna and Clinton Morrison's Birmingham City (Ken Cunningham is currently side lined with injury).

At Old Trafford, it looked like Phil Babb and Kevin Kilbane were on the verge of helping Sunderland to a memorable victory over Manchester United - with Roy Keane and John O'Shea in the side - until two late goals for the Red Devil's meant the home side earned the victory.

At Goodison Park, Lee Carsley made a second half appearance for Everton as they drew 2-2 with Richard Dunne & Manchester City while Mark Kinsella also made a substitute appearance as Aston Villa beat Bolton Wanderers 2-0 {Stan is currently out for a minimum of 'six weeks' also after deciding to undergo a hernia operation}.

And finally, Rory Delap helped Southampton climb to a staggering ‘sixth’ in the table with victory {1-0} over Stephen Carr and Robbie Keane of Tottenham.
