Premiership

Steve Finnan’s Fulham ensured Sunderland received their 6th Premiership defeat on the bounce, with a goal from ‘Saha’ at Loftus Road but Sunderland still remain at the foot of the Premiership table.

McAteer and Kilbane featured while Phil Babb remained on the bench. soccercentral.ie learned that Kilbane’s hard work and effort was tireless at Loftus today from our Wearside scource.

Southampton, without the services of injured Rory Delap, took maximum points {1-0} at St. Mary’s over visiting West Brom. And Blackburn, also without the injured Damien Duff, beat Man City {1-0} at Ewood Park.

Lee Carsley was not in the Everton squad that travelled to the Riverside to face Middlesbrough. The game ended 1-1.

In the lunchtime kick off, Andy O’Brien partnered Jonathan Woodgate in the centre of defence at St James Park for the Magpies in their 2-1 win over Chelsea. Given, was as ever, between the sticks. Newcastle now move to joint 2nd with Manchester United, with the only difference between the sides is that of goal difference {Man +19: Newc +14}.

And finally, although included as a Substitute for the Hammer’s, Gary Breen did not feature, despite the Hammer’s 2-0 victory over Tottenham at Upton Park. Steve Carr & Gary Doherty featured for the visitor’s, and the injured Robbie Keane did not travel with the squad.

Div, I - II - II & Conferance

Mark Kennedy, Denis Irwin and Paul Butler {pictured} were part of the Wolves side that beat Crystal Palace {4-0} at the Molineux and Dublin native Kennedy provided the cross for Wolves 2nd goal.

In Div II: Former Bray Wanderer’s defender Graham Coughlan scored after 15 minutes on the clock for Plymouth Argyle in the draw {1-1} against Barnsley at Home Park. Former Republic of Ireland U21 striker, Paul Heffernan, scored a brace for Notts. County in their 2-1 win over Luton Town at Meadow Lane.

In Div III: Roddy Collin’s Carlisle were heavily defeated by Hull at Brunton Park 1-5. Collin’s Irish contingent - Peter Murphy and Richie Foran and Brendan McGill found themselves 3-0 down at half time. Willie McDonagh came on just before the break.

Barry Conlon found the back of the net for Darlington over local rivals Hartlepool. The Monaghan native scored to put Darlington ahead after 36 minutes, but Hartlepool – under assistant manager ‘Kevin Sheedy’ – responded with the equaliser in the second half. And with another goal each, the game finished 2-2.

In the Conference: Former Irish youth international Daryl Clare scored the first goal for Chester in their win {2-0} over Halifax at the Deva Stadium.

And finally, Gary Kelly – brother of former Irish international keeper Alan Kelly – had a dreadful day for his side Northwich Victoria, when the Irish net-minder saw Morecambe put three goals into his net. The game ended Morecambe 3 – 1 Northwich Victoria.
