Souness still at war with words...Bank Holiday Monday news

"Graeme Souness still annoyed about MickMcCarthys decision to keep Duffer on the field for 90 mins". This occured the other night during Irelands 3-0 lashing of Denmark, in a friendly at Landsdowne. The Blackburn boss launched another comment in Mick McCarthy’s direction as Damien Duff returned to the Blackburn squad – fully recovered from his international exertions.

"He turned up knackered on Friday. Thanks, Ireland! I'm not happy about the situation. My argument is it is in the best interests of Mick McCarthy and my interests to look after the player," said Souness.Blackburn desperately need points in their bid for Premiership survival or they may find it impossible to hold onto Duff.Weekend speculation would suggest that a posse of big clubs are watching Souness and his latest spat with McCarthy, all ready to pounce with big cheques. Already Arsenal have emerged as likely suitors for his signature. Arsene Wenger has always been keen to replace Marc Overmars and Duff would fit that role nicely. Go Duff, while you still can Mate!

In the Premiership today, Monday 01/04/02'

Ipswich v Chelsea.....Chelsea's Cudicini not only produced his third penalty save of the season to deny Ipswich striker Marcus Bent's spot kick 12 minutes before the break.A free-kick on the edge of the penalty area also gave them hope, only for Cudicini to prove equal to the challenge again as he reacted instantly to block Matt Holland's fiercely-driven shot. Both Tractor Boys and Chelsea Blues could have done with the the extra 2 points for entirely different reasons.

Sunderland v Leicester.....Sunderland broke the spell today by a home win over relegation hopefuls, Leicester City.American international Claudio Reyna paid off a large chunk of his GBP 4.5million transfer fee when he smashed home a precious double to bank three Premiership points for Sunderland. The former Rangers midfielder struck twice within 14 minutes early in the first half either side of Matt Elliott's equaliser to condemn Leicester to yet another defeat and ease the Wearsiders' relegation fears. It was just reward for a Sunderland side that played some of their best football for months, although they were forced to hang on for dear life as the seemingly doomed Foxes scrapped every inch of the way.Niall Quinn, Jason McAteer & Kevin Kilbane all took part. Kilbane was yellow carded.

Spurs v Leeds.....Spurs have not given up hope yet of qualifying for Europe, but they would have to finish seventh and hope that a UEFA Cup spot is provided by Chelsea finishing outside the top four and winning the FA Cup.Leeds must lick their wounds after successive defeats over the Easter weekend and get their Champions League hopes back on track.Final score 2-1 home win to the Spurs, totalling in Leeds giving 6 goals away in three days.Robbie Keane came on for David Batty at the 64th minute.

Fulham v West Ham.....Tigana must have been frustrated by his side's strange reluctance to shoot in the first half..Steve Finnan lashed a spectacular 20-yard volley over the top late on and Fulham keeper van der Sar even tried his luck with a header from an injury-time corner, but the ball flew wide.

In Division 2

Dominic Foley netted for QPR today in their 3-2 win over Notts County, in the 84th minute. Foley who joined QPR from Watford two weeks earlier, may still feature in Mick McCarthys future plans for the team. However it is unlikely that Foley will go to Korea. Not only has he dropped down a division, but Morrison, Keane (Rob),Connolly and Quinn will surely be ahead of him
