Kilbane acts on impulse

Republic of Ireland and Sunderland midfielder Kevin Kilbane made a “V” sign to travelling fans in haste, as the Preston born Irishman retaliated to their boos. In Sunderland’s 2-1 defeat at the hands of KAA Gent, Kilbane put in a poor cross that received geers from the Fans. They then started to shout “OFF, OFF”. And in response the usually composed Kilbane made the victory sign.

Peter Reid took him off immediately, and the midfielder was devastated after the incident. Kevin has made an official apology to the travelling fans, who are coming to the end of their patience with the poor performances of the Wearside Black Cats. Peter Reid has yet to buy more strikers, to aid Kevin Philips and Niall Quinn .

Thomas Butler on the other had provided Sunderland’s Kevin Kyle with the cross which found the Black Cats on the score-sheet. Reid in particular singled out Butler after the game, and all during the 90 minutes Butler was causing the Kaa Gent players many problems.

This may be the time for Kilbanes exit out of the Stadium of Light, as he has never fitted in with the Wearside crowd. Thomas Butler should be only too happy to take his place, and it certainly looks like it is going to happen, sooner-rather than later. Question is, will Butler move in the green shirt in Kilbanes place too?

Team Sunderland: Myhre, Haas (Williams 56), Babb , Thome, Gray, Butler , Reyna (Bellion 61), McCann, McAteer , Kilbane (Thirlwell 53), Phillips (Kyle 60).
