FA Cup 3rd round

Lee Carsleys Everton were the suprise upset in the FA Cup 3rd round today as they went down at Shrewsbury {2-1}. Nigel Jemson grabbed a goal in each half as the Shrews shook off Everton at Gay Meadow to record the shock of the FA Cup third round.

In the late evening kick-off at St Marys, Rory Delaps Southampton' took Robbie Keane and Steve Carrs Spurs' to the cleaners by a 4-0 victory. Gary Doherty made a late second-half appearance for the visitors.

Grimsby Town and Burnley shared the points {2-2} and former Irish U21 international 'Alan Moore' was on target with a goal for visiting Burnley. Burnley will now replay Grimsby at their ground Turf Moor.

Although David Connolly did not score today for Wimbledon, he did feature for the Dons in their victory {0-3} over Alan Lees Rotherham. Incidently Connolly is the second highest scorer in Div I, with 14 goals so far this season, while Galway native Alan Lee has 12 goals and occupying the third place in the Div I {League} goal scoring table.

10 Man Div II Brentford beat Div I Derby also in the Cup 3rd round today. The only goal of the game came from Steven Hunt (Republic of Ireland U21 Winger), brother of Shamrock Rovers 'STAR MAN' Noel Hunt. Noel Hunt earlier this week agreed to move from the Irish Hoops to SPL Dunfermline on 26/01 this year, when the EIRCOM Premier League season finishes.

Premiership bottom the table ‘Hammers’ sealed their ‘FIRST WIN’ at Upton Park this season over Div I high flyers Nottingham Forest {3-2}. Forests 2nd goal came courtesy of Andy Reid (Republic of Ireland U21) in the 50th minute of play.

League Div III:

Roddy Collins Carlisle United could have been playing Leeds today in the FA Cup, had they not fallen to Scunthorpe in the 2nd round replay. However despite a poor league run over the Festive period, Collins Irish contingent took maximum points today {1-0} – with a single goal from Jon McCarthy – but the Irish contingent at Brunton Park was heavily represented on the field for Carlisle in the form of Brian Shelley, Peter Murphy, Dessie Byrne, while Brendan McGill and Willie McDonagh remained on the bench.

And finally:Nationwide Conference

Irishman Daryl Clare scored the only goal of the game today at Kettering taking his current season tally to '15' goals in '13' games for the Welsh outfit.
