Gavin and Melligan rejoin Irish loanees

Republic of Ireland and Middlesboro defender Jason Gavin has signed a new one-month loan deal with Div I strugglers Grimsby Town. The 23 year-old has impressed at Blundell Park since his arrival at the start of November.

Gavin has already made five appearances in a Grimsby shirt, although he had a taste of Middlesboro first team action this season with a starting roll in the centre of their defence in a 4-1 Worthington Cup victory over Div II ‘Brentford’ at Griffin Park. In the 99-00’ season, Gavin played an increasingly important part in Middlesbrough's defence under the reign of Brian Robson.

He also partnered Richard Dunne during the Republic of Ireland's Under 18 European Championship victory in Cyprus in 1997.

Elsewhere, Dubliner and Wolves winger ‘JJ Melligan’ has returned to Div III Kidderminster Harriers on loan for another month. The 20-year-old became a huge hit with Harriers fans with four goals in three games, totalling to six in a little over a month during his time with the Harriers.

But Wolves Boss Dave Jones recalled the Dubliner, and he was subsequently handed his senior debut for Wolves against Coventry at Highfield Road in mid November of this year as a substitute in the closing minutes.
