LIAM GEORGE CONTRACT EXTENDED

Despite reports in the newspapers in and around Manchester Liam George has had his contract extended for anothe month at Div III club Bury F.C.

George, the scorer of the winning penalty against Germany for the Republic of Ireland under-18 team in the UEFA Championship final in Cyprus four years ago, scored his first competitive goal for the Shakers at the end of November

A man of the match performance during that game scoring the only goal for Bury in their win (1-0) over Exeter City at Gigg Lane - was what was need to persuade Preece to extend the Luton-born Irish mans contract until the end of December. He has been with Bury, short-term contract basis, since August 2002.

But after the Bury Board met last Friday {3 Jan}, it was decided that the Luton born Irish man will remain at Gigg lane until the end of January of this year.

Injury prone George has had trials with Clydebank, Cambridge, Colchester, Gillingham and Rushden to name but a few, but failed to impress.
