Barrett seagull for season / McAteer requiring second op?

Republic of Ireland and Arsenal forward Graham Barrett today signed a loan deal extension to remain with Div I Brighton until the end of the season

Speaking about the deal the Kilnamanagh native had the following to say:

"It feels great. I was always going to sign the deal, but perhaps because of my injury (knee) it’s taken a bit longer than expected." - The Dubliner has also agreed a revised deal with his employers at Highbury

“I’ve agreed a new deal with Arsenal which will see me over the next few months, so it’s nice to know that I’m still in their plans.”

McAteer to go under the knife - AGAIN?

Republic of Ireland & Sunderland midfielder Jason McAteer may have to have another hernia op, despite the fact that he only returned to training last week after a first operation.

McAteer, while training at the ‘Charlie Hurley centre’ – one of Sunderland’s training camps – broke down in training toward the end of November. The Birkenhead native has seen a specialist this week was informed that he might require further surgery to correct the problem. This could side line the Irish international for another two months. Howard Wilkinson, Sunderland boss, speaking to Century FM in Newcastle today (Fri)

“Jason faces the possibility of another operation which is going to keep him out for a further six to eight weeks. He has got an abdominal hernia as opposed to the one in the groin.” “It's a very, very uncommon injury for a footballer, more common in rugby players, and there has been a side complication to it which on second opinion may require surgery”

Another Irish man abroad, Stoke City’s Wicklow native Clive Clarke picked up a knee injury against Gillingham last week. It has been confirmed that Clarke has suffered bone fracture as well as ligament damage.
