In the Premiership

Robbie Keane left the field today after just twenty minutes today at White Hart against visiting Sunderland and it was his replacement and Irish teammate Gary Doherty who gave Spurs the half-time lead against Sunderland after heading home a Darren Anderton corner.

Poyet scored first for the home side while Philips scored the equaliser within the first half hour. But Robbie Keane appeared to limp off whether it was a recurrence of his ankle injury or the result of a tackle with Sunderland’s Jody Craddock on the tenth minute today. Doherty’s strike was just on the whistle at the end of the first half. The game finished 4-1 to Spurs.

Jeff Kenna & Kenny Cunningham were on the loosing Birmingham City side {1-3} against Chelsea at St Andrews. Clinton Morrison remained on the bench for the home side.

Blackburn welcomed visiting Southampton to Ewood – the home side without the services of the injured Duff, and the visitors with Delap. Blackburn took the points {1-0} while former Republic of Ireland shot stopper Alan Kelly kept the bench warm.

Lee Carsley's Everton lost at Charlton {2-1, Carsley remained on the bench), while Steve Finnan Fulham took the three points at home against Aston Villa – Staunton remained on the bench for Villa.

Gary Kelly was again the only Irish man on the Leeds side that beat West Ham {1-0} at Elland Road. Harte remained on the bench for Leeds while there was no place at all in the West Ham squad for Irish defender Gary Breen.

In Div I: Graham Barrett’s Brighton moved off the foot of the Div I table, with a 4-1 thrashing of Mark Kennedy’s Wolves. Barrett remained on the bench for Brighton, while Paul Butler was in the Wolves side with Kennedy.

Richie Partridge (2nd half sub) and Barry Quinn were on the loosing Coventry side {0-1} at Highfield Road against Alan Moore’s Burnley.

Matt Holland’s Ipswich were the victors {3-2} over Div I high flyers Shef. Utd. at Portman Road, while David Connolly’s Wimbledon shared the points {2-2} with Bradford at Selhurst Park.

In Div II: Brentford’s Republic of Ireland U21 Internationals Steven Hunt & Martin Rowland’s both made the headlines for different reasons. Steven (Brother of Noel, now of Dunfermline) scored the first goal to give Brentford the lead over visitors Crewe, while Martin was sent off just before the break. Crewe took the three points {1-2}

Irish U21 international, Jonathan Daly, scored the first goal for Stockport in their victory on their travels to Cheltenham today {0-2}, while Irish striker Mickey Evans scored his second goal in two games for Plymouth on their winning visit {0-1} at Oldham.

In Div III: Sunderland’s on-loan Defender Cliff Byrne was sent for an early bath when the Irishman was sent off on the 57th minute for Scunthorpe in their away defeat {1-0} at Boston United.

Roddy Collins Carlisle settled for a point at Brunton Park {2-2} against Kidderminster Harriers – Carlisle’s second goal cam from Dublin native Richie Foran.

Dubliner Dave Savage was on target with a goal for Oxford in their defeat {2-1} on their travels to Rochdale.

Conference League: Former Irish international and current Southport Boss, Mick Walsh, secured a draw {1-1} against Gravesend, while Chester’s Irish Striker ‘Daryl Clare’ could not find the back of the net against visitors Forest Green who took the points {0-1}.

Finally, former Republic of Ireland international striker and current Falkirk player/coach ‘Owen Coyle’ bagged a hat trick today in a ‘SEVEN GOAL’ thriller against Inverness. Falkirk took the points {3-4} to maintain their status on top of the Scottish Div I Table.
