Dempsey secures 3 year deal at the Pars

Dunfermline Athletics Irish midfielder Gary Dempsey has just been handed a new three-year extension to his current contract with the Scottish Premier League outfit at East End Park.

Wexford Native, Dempsey, first signed for Dunfermline {the Pars} in June {02’} from Waterford United for an initial period of six months, but Pars boss’ Jimmy Calderwood’ has liked what he’s seen so much, that the former Waterford United player was offered the extension on his contract.

Dunfermline are currently in 4th place in the SPL with 36 points from 23 games, and the Pars have been all over the Irish newspapers of late, relating to the inevitable transfer of Noel Hunt from the Irish Hoops – Shamrock Rovers.

Hunt, earlier this week, agreed to move from the ‘Hoops’ to the ‘Pars’ at the end of January this year when the EIRCOM Premier League season finishes. Hunt is a prolific goal scorer who began his career with ‘Johnville’ in Waterford, and Dempsey is a former Teammate of Hunt while they were at Waterford United. Dempsey is relishing the thought of his Irish colleague coming over the Water and joining the Pars. Dempsey said:

"Huntie will stay with me for the next few months and I cannot wait for him to come over. He’s a really lively character and I know he will do well for us. He’s got a great attitude and loads of talent. There are a growing number of Irish lads over here - I met up with Alan Maybury of Hearts last week for a meal while I also keep in touch with the Celtic lads, Liam Miller and Mick Doyle."
