Irish abroad W/E Sun 10/11/02

Republic of Ireland international, David Connolly, scored ‘four’ times today in a highly contested game with Bradford City in Div I, with two goals in the first and then two goals in the second half at Valley Parade.

Connolly scored a hat trick in the Dons victory over Norwich (4-2) last week, and today (Saturday) went one better, bringing the Irish internationals goal tally up to 9 in four games, so far this season

In Div II, Republic of Ireland U21 international, Ben Burgess was on target for Stockport in the draw (1-1) with Cheltenham.

Manchester United left back and Republic of Ireland international Paul Tierney was cleared to play for Crewe today at Gresty Road with visitors Brentford. The home side took the points (2-1), while Republic of Ireland U21 internationals Steven Hunt featured and Martin Rowland's featured for the visitors.

In Div III, Roddy Collins ‘Cumbrian blues’ travelled to Kidderminster and took three points back with them (1-2), with one goal courtesy of Irish youth international, Willie McDonagh. McDonagh was sent off in injury time. Carlisle move up the 20th, after playing 18 games with eighteen points in the Div III league table.

Another Irish loanee, Michael Reddy, was cleared to play in York City’s squad today, after agreeing to an initial one-month loan deal from Sunderland during the week. It was Leyton Orient who travelled to Bootham crescent, with the home side taking all three points (3-2). One of Orients goal came courtesy of Irishman Kevin Nugent.

And in the Scottish Div I, Former Republic of Ireland international striker, Owen Coyle, netted his 8th goal of the season for Falkirk in their win (3-0) over Alloa

And finally in the Premiership, the Manchester Derby went city’s way (3-1), with two Republic of Ireland defenders, Dunne and O’Shea going head to head. O’Shea was a late second half sub, and could have grabbed one back for the visitors unmarked in the box, but instead blazed his shot over the bar.

Bobby Robson’s goal- keeper rotation system it seems may continue as Shay Given failed to keep a clean sheet at Highbury today (0-1) - Andy O’Brien featured for the Mags.

Steve Staunton and Mark Kinsella’s Aston Villa beat Steve Finnan’s Fulham today at Villa Park (3-1). Former Republic of Ireland international, Gareth Farrelly, was part of the Bolton side that drew with West Brom at the Reebok (1-1), while Joe Murphy remained on the bench for the Baggies.

More woes for the Birmingham Irish, as Clinton Morrison , Jeff Kenna and Kenny Cunningham were on the loosing side for City, at Chelsea (3-0). Lee Carsleys Everton beat Charlton (1-0) at Goodison. Blackburn Rovers travelled to Southampton today (1-1), without the services of Damien Duff who is injured with a calf strain. Republic of Ireland midfield player Rory Delap was on the bench for the Saints
