7 Irish Black Cats bound for Channel Islands

Sunderland have sent an 18-man squad to the channel Islands today to participate in the U21 Jersey Football tournament. Sunderland play Celtic in their first game, and then Sporting Lisbon. In the other group Barcelona, Man Utd. and Tottenham Hotspur will battle it out.

The games are being played in St Hellier and no fewer than 7 Irish youths will participate for the Black Cats, with the U21 Wearsider's kicking off against the U21 Bhoys tomorrow. The tournament first began in 1999, and was the first ever-professional tournament staged in the Channel Islands. The competition is played over six days, and allows clubs to include five players over nineteen, but under 21 years of age.

The 2002 Fixtures are: Sunderland v Celtic Tuesday 13th August, Man Utd. v Barcelona Wednesday 14th August, Sunderland v Sporting Lisbon Thursday 15th August, Barcelona v Tottenham Friday 16th August, Sporting v Celtic Saturday 17th August, Tottenham v Man Utd. Saturday 17th August, And the Final Sunday 18th August
