McCarthy ecstatic at Keanes exit

Republic of Ireland boss Mick McCarthy has said he never wants to see Roy Keane again, never mind work with him, and that he was Ecstatic when Keane went home

In an extract from McCarthy’s World Cup diary, the Yorkshire man tells all regarding the bust up between himself and the former Republic of Ireland captain Roy Keane, which eventually saw the Cork man on an early flight home from the finals.

“I feared an apology. Instead he (Keane) is finally out of the World Cup. He abandoned the Team he captained, and the players were happy to carry on without him”

But on the contrary, McCarthy also stresses that he is not vindictive and that he would now talk to Roy: “I don’t hold grudges, and if he rang me I would talk to him”

In related news, Roy Keane faces two FA charges claiming that he deliberately set out to injure an opponent, and then seeking to profit from the revelations. The hearing will take place this Tuesday
