Irish Abroad FA Cup 3rd Rd Replays / Div II Tues 14/01/03

Conference outfit Dagenham & Redbridge were victorious over Div II Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup 3rd replay tonight (Tues 14 Jan) at Victoria Road.

Limerick midfielder John McGrath, currently on loan from Aston Villa was on fire for the home side, and his commanding performance in the midfield from the left wing, saw the Daggers enter the 4th round for the first time in their History. As for Plymouth, there were three Irish men on the field – 30 year old Dublin striker Mickey Evans {Capped once for the Republic of Ireland in 1997} & Defenders Graham Coughlan and David Worrell.

Stephen Reid shook of a calf injury to feature for Millwall at the new Den and played a part in their victory {3-2} over Cambridge. Millwall will now face Southampton in the next round.

And in the only Premiership clash between Sunderland and Bolton in the FA Cup 3rd Replay at the Stadium of Light, the Black Cats could not find the back of the net – that was until Argentinean ‘Julio Arca’ scored in extra time {99 mins}. Drogheda native midfielder, Sean Thornton , was by far Sunderland’s best player on the night, and Howard Wilkinson personally took him to one side at the final whistle and thanked him for all of his hard work on his ‘ SUNDERLAND DEBUT ’.But Sunderland sealed the win local lad ‘Michael Proctor’ who scored the second of the night on 100’ minutes played.

On-loan Manchester United Irish defender, Paul Tierney was on the Crewe Alex side {Div II}, against Bournemouth {Div III} in their nail biting 2-2 draw in extra time {Crewe equalised in the 120t minute}. Bournemouth’s side included Dublin native Gareth O’Connor who missed a penalty in normal time. Bournemouth progressed on Penalties {3-1}

In Div II - Tues 14/01/03

Republic of Ireland U21 striker Ben Burgess made his debut for Oldham after agreeing a loan move from Stockport County during the week, to feature in their 2-1 win over Brentford.
