Irish Abroad W/E 15/09 / Richie Dunne suspended by City

Robbie Keane finally made his debut at White Hart Lane for Tottenham this weekend, after missing out at Fulham last Wednesday, with a man-of-the-match performance.

From the start the Keane made an impression and came close in the opening minutes with a well-controlled ball from his left to his right foot, but unfortunately for the Dubliner it went over the bar. But on the 70th minute after a truly wonderful piece of ball control from the Irishman, West Hams Last man back took the Irish striker down subsequently allowing Teddy Sheringham to convert the awarded penalty. West Ham played the last 20 minutes with ten men, as Pearce was sent off for the challenge on Keane.

Gary Doherty made an early substitute appearance after just 30 minutes, as Chris Perry of Tottenham limped off after a West Ham challenge. Breen started for the Hammers, and at times had to cope with the wrath of the Tallaght Tiger Robbie Keane with his sudden bursts of pace. Sadly forGary Breen he was the West Ham player who deflected Spurs third goal into his own net. Final score 3-2 to Tottenham

Man City also held Blackburn to a 2-2 draw, and Dubliner Alan Mahon made a late second half appearance for Souness’ Lancashire men.

Yesterday Leeds and Republic of Ireland midfield player Stephen McPhail made his first “senior” contribution for the Yorkshire side this season, after several appearances for Leeds reserves already this season. Ian Harte, who received a yellow card, played the full 90 minutes, as did John O’Shea for Man Utd. bringing O’Shea’s tally to 3 senior team starts this season.

Elsewhere over the weekend Cardiff city took the points at Stockport’s Ninian Park with a second half strike from former Irish international Graham Kavanagh. Bury’s Gigg Lane hosted Bournemouth, but the points went to Bury and the visitors goal was scored by Dubliner Gareth O’Connor. Liam George remained on the bench for Bury, as the former Republic of Ireland youth European championship winner is into the sixth week of his short-term 3-month contract.

Dunne suspended by Manchester City

Richard Dunne has been suspended by Manchester City, for a serious breech of club discipline.

Dunne was not included in today’s squad which faced Blackburn at Maine Road this afternoon, but Manchester City’s chief Operating officer Chris Bird said that the ‘matter will be investigated by the board mid-week’

Nothing more is known at this time, however the Republic of Ireland defender has been in breech of the clubs discipline previously regarding time keeping issues. Kevin Keegan spoke highly of the centre-back only this week, insisting that he was very much part of the Premiership squad
