Crystal Palace 1 - 2 Leeds United
FA Cup 5th Round

Leeds United skipper and Republic of Ireland International Gary Kelly scored a fantastic free kick at Selhurst Park against Crystal Palace in the 5th round of the FA Cup today which enabled Leeds reach the last eight of the competition.

And although the free kick itself was the subject of controversy afterwards as Crystal Palace were furious that Kelly took the kick too quickly, Kelly could clearly be seen asking referee ‘Dermot Gallagher ‘ for permission to strike the ball home from 25 yards

Australian International ‘Harry Kewell’ scored the second goal, which was the decider after Palace equalised just two minutes after Kelly’s free kick. Kelly spoke to Sky TV after today’s televised game.

“The Dress rehearsal was maybe the game at Gillingham, but we got stuck in and put in a good team performance”

When asked to comment on the timing of his ‘THIRD’ goal in his Leeds career, Kelly added:

“Ah I don’t know. Its been six years {since his last goal}, but whoever scores im not bothered, just as long as we took the victory and move onto the next round.”

“The FA Cup means an awful lot to Leeds, but that’s only one game but there’s an awful lot more games to be played in the League but we’ll take it one game at a time.”

Crystal Palace manager, Trevor Francis, described Kelly’s free kick after the game as ‘PURE BRILLIANCE’

Fulham 1 - 1 Burney
FA Cup 5th Round

Burnley took on Premiership Fulham in the 5th round of the Cup today and it was Republic of Ireland international Alan Moore {pictured}who opened the scoring for Stan Ternent's Clarets.

Stan Ternent's Burnley, 15th in Division I (20 places below Fulham), knocked out fellow First Division Grimsby 4-0 at Turf Moor, after drawing 2-2 at Blundell Park. They then went to Second Division Brentford and experienced few problems in dismissing them 0-3. But by their performance today, the replay was well earned due to Dublin native ‘Moore’s’ first half strike after just four minutes, and Burnley’s overall performance.

Just on the stroke of half time, Fulham’s Malbranque levelled things, forcing the game to go to a replay at Turf Moore.

Steve Finnan recovered from a cold that forced the Irish defender to withdraw from the Irish squad, that won in Scotland last Wednesday, to feature today for Fulham.
