Republic of Ireland U19, and Sunderland’s on-loan midfielder, Sean Thornton, has been refused permission to play for Blackpool in the FA Cup, which one would assume Black Cats boss ‘Howard Wilkinson’ is keen to put the Drogheda native in a Sunderland shirt at some stage in the competition.
Carlisle United’s Irish contingent will travel to Glanford Park to face Div III Scunthorpe Utd. in the second round proper of the FA Cup, but both sides have met already this season - Scunthorpe the victors (2-1) in the League. Former Irish under 21 international, ‘Colin Larkins’ Mansfield Town travel to Crewe Alexandra’s ‘Gresty’ Road.
