FOCUS: Div III clubs in crisis

Two Div III clubs are in England are showing signs that there is little, if not, NO MONEY, in the Nationwide league. Bury are set to reduce their playing staff, but for York City the situation is now one of complete crisis.

Bury is taking a serious look at its status in the league, with York likely to go out of business if a buyer is not found by January 18th.

Bury will have to loan players out to control the wage bill, after Luton born Irish striker ‘Liam George’ was handed an extended short term contract at the end of November, and Bury boss Andy Preece secured Manchester Citys ‘Terry Dunfield’ permanently last week. Although the signings of George and Dunfield have move Bury up to within one place of a play off position in the Div, money needs to be saved.

Our Irish contingent represented at Manchester minnows Bury F.C. is none other than former Irish youth international Liam George, and it is believed that they (Bury) are looking to tie him to a contract for the remainder of the season.

For York or ‘The Minster men’, the situation is much more serious. The Div III club is without a permanent owner, and should a buyer not secure the club before the deadline, they are likely to go out of business after their home game against Swansea.

Minster men chairman John Batchelor has said that he wants the club to survive and that he will help the Administrators as much as he can. The administrators have said:

“It is important to point out that if we are unable to find a purchaser or secure further significant funding by 18 January then the directors will be forced to place the Club into liquidation which will mean the end of Minster men.”

Although there is no permanent Irish man on Yorks books, Michael Reddy (Sunderland) is currently on loan at Bootham crescent, and he should return to Wearside before Christmas.
