Irish Black Cats are Champions
Sunderland U21s won the “Jersey Football Tournament” today with a historic 3-1 victory over Barcelona U21s, in a game which saw Republic of Ireland U21 defender Clifford Byrne get his name on the score sheet. Sunderland’s other two goals were from local lad Michael Proctor, and the Sunderland born striker scored the first and the third today, bringing his total to 4 in the 6-day tournament. Sunderland remained unbeaten in the tournament with wins over Celtic and Sporting Lisbon on Tuesday and Thursday last.
The title and the silverware will be just the tonic for the Wearside Fans, the Sunderland U21s & Peter Reid’s men, doubling up with the Senior sides 0-0 result away to Blackburn Rover’s in yesterdays opening game of the Premiership
