Collins Carlisle Reach LDV Vans Final

Roddy Collins Carlisle United returned to winning ways in this Tuesday evenings Northern LDV Vans trophy semi final against Bury at Brunton Park in a game that went into extra time.

Collins welcomed back former Shels striker Richie Foran from suspension and the Dubliner opened the scoring with a 20th minute goal. Carlisle went in at half time, a goal to the good, however Bury drew level on the hour mark, and then scored again 10 minutes later.

Dublin Native midfielder Willie McDonagh netted with just minutes remaining {2-2} taking the game to extra time. But with just two minutes to go, McDonagh popped up again with a 25-yard shot that deflected in off a Bury player.

With 23 points from 27 games played in the Div III League, Collins men now occupy the 23rd place in the table, although Bristol Rovers are just 2 points ahead in 20th position.

Brian Shelly, Peter Murphy, Richie Foran & Willie McDonagh represented Carlisle’s Irish contingent for tonight’s game while Bren McGill started & remained on the bench. Carlisle now progress to the final

For the visitors, former Irish youth international, Liam George, whose short-term contract was extended until the end of January with the Manchester Minnows, also started & remained on the bench.

Elsewhere in Div II: Irish U21 striker Paul Heffernan scored for Notts County in their 3-2 victory over Stockport. Notts County now move up ‘4’ places to 15th in the Div II table

And in Div III: Scunthorpe Utd. Drew {1–1} with Exeter City at Glanford Park, Exeter’s goal courtesy of Lewisham born Irish striker Sean Devine

Finally in the Worthington Cup, Liverpool progressed to the final after beating Sheffield United 2-0 on the night {3-2agg}. Sheffields Irish Keeper Paddy Kenny was beaten with strikes by Diouf in the 9th minute and then Michael Owen in extra time played.
