Scotland v Republic of Ireland confirmed / No change in Irish ranking

The eagerly anticipated friendly between the Republic of Ireland and Scotland has been confirmed for 12 February 2003 at Hampden Park following discussions between the FAI and the SFA this week.

It will be a chance for the national side's new manager to see the players at his disposal before the crucial Euro 2004 qualifiers away to both Georgia in Tblisi and Albania in Tirana in a four day period at the end of March begining of April 2003.

With both associations coming together in a bid to host Euro 2008 it would be a fitting tribute if the successful bid is celebrated by both countries in this friendly international game. The sides last met in Lansdowne Road on 30 May 2000 when the visitors went away with a perfect end of season 2-1 win thanks to goals from Don Hutchinson and Barry Ferguson.

No change in Irelands FIFA ranking

Two losses in the opening two Euro 2004 qualifiers have had no effect as the Republic of Ireland remain in 14th spot in the latest FIFA rankings.Switzerland who won 2-1 in Lansdowne Road see no fruit for their efforts and hold onto 45th place while Russia drop down one to 24.

The top five remain as they were last month with Brazil leading France, Spain, Germany and Argentina.
