Kelly steps in for Friedel / Irish Loanees update

Former Republic of Ireland international Alan Kelly will put on his gloves again for Blackburn’s visit to the Valley on Sunday, after rover’s net-minder Brad Friedel has undergone successful surgery on a knee injury.

In what will only be Kelly’s third Premiership appearance in 2 years, the former Irish shot-stopper is certain that he can add to Friedels performances so far this season for the Lancashire Outfit

“I think so yeah – I’ve been around the block enough to know what its like to play in big games. Obviously we’ve got a few injuries, but I’ve been involved in big games at International level too, so I’m just looking forward to getting another start for the team. Also from my point of view, it gives me a chance to show off what I can still do to anyone who may be watching”

Regarding the situation across the water, and the search for a new Irish Boss, Kelly believes that a manager needs to be chosen sooner rather than later for the good of the team

“ They (FAI) need to get it stabilised and structured now. The players need leadership – they lost what was their leadership in Mick, and its imperative that the new Irish boss stamps their authority not only in the team, but within the FAI too”
