Irwin now a fox

Irwin signs one year deal with Foxes

Ex Republic of Ireland and former Manchester United fullback Denis Irwin has agreed a one-year deal with First Division Wolves. And Wolves Boss David Jones is ecstatic that he managed to land our Irish Hero, what with so many clubs in the race to get his signature. For Sir Alex Ferguson at the end of season 01-02’ released the Cork man after 12 years service at the Manchester club. Wolves unveiled their new experienced signing at a press conference today. Dennis Irwin’s experience is an attribute that any club would yearn to have in their back-line and it came as more than a surprise when the Old Trafford Boss released the Irishman. Denis will join Irish Internationals Mark Kennedy , Paul Butler and Irish junior internationals, Ian McGrane and Graham Ward at Molineux. And Dave Jones and their men will be even more determined to get back into top-flight football, what with their disappointing exit from the Div I playoffs against Norwich City.

Wolves failed to turn around the then previous week’s 3-1 defeat at the hands of outsider’s Norwich, in the second leg of the Div I playoff semi-finals. Although the Foxes won by 1-0 in the second leg, on the night Norwich went through on the aggregate score. Success for the Foxes would have seen Republic of Irelands, Paul Butler and Mark Kennedy play their football at the highest level next season, with promotion to the premier league through the Div I play-offs. Keane on target for Leeds United

What with all of the transfer speculation surrounding Robbie Keane over the past couple of weeks, the Dubliner give Terry Venables something to think about when he slotted home the 3rd goal in Leeds’ 1-5 win over Green Town FC, in Hangzhou in their per-season tour of Australia and the Far East today.

Keane came on as a substitute minutes into the second half when he scored in Leeds impressive first game under the guidance of “El Tel”. Two other Irish men were involved in today’s’ game, the recently out of favour Republic Of Ireland midfielder Stephen McPhail (played the 1st 45), and Drogheda born Ian Harte who played some 35 minutes. Keane has been linked with no fewer than four Premiership clubs, since the Dubliner came back from a spectacular World Cup performance, and Peter Reid was first on the list to get his signature after Leeds agreed they would be willing to sell. However Keane, who was on holiday at the time stated that his future was with Leeds United and he was willing to fight for his place in the starting IX. And from his decision to say no to the Wearsider’s, Middlesboro and Tottenham and Blackburn are now as interested in the former Wolves, Coventry and Inter Milan Striker.

Leeds: Paul Robinson (Milosovic 57), Frazer Richardson (Mills 52), Shane Cansdell-Sherriff (Harte 57), Jonathan Woodgate (Duberry 45), Dominic Matteo (Radebe 57), Eirik Bakke (McMaster 57), Olivier Dacourt (Burns 45), McPhail (Wilcox 45), Harry Kewell (Fowler 52), Alan Smith (Keane 52), Mark Viduka (Bridges 45).
