Another Irish legend in the news

Remember David Kelly?

David Kelly, former Republic of Ireland striker is currently in talks with English Conference side Telford United Boss Jake King, regarding a possible move to Bucks Head Stadium. The Republic of Ireland international has been capped on 26 occasions, and made his debut on 10th November 1987 in a 5-0 win against Israel (F), at the ripe young age of 21.

Telford United are optimistic about getting the former Irish strikers signature however Shelbourne F.C., an unnamed Cypriot team and Conference side Forest Green Rovers are all rumoured to be in the running. But there is more on transfer saga of the 36-year-old Birmingham born Irish man, for Kelly recently rejected an approach from Hereford after his release from Div III Mansfield Town. And he is without a club at the moment despite currently training with Telford United, King does not believe that Telford can afford the Irish striker. During David’s 19 year career as a professional footballer he has played with Walsall, West Ham, Leicester, Newcastle, Wolves, Sunderland, Sheffield United Tranmere and Mansfield, and not forgetting a 10 year International career with the Republic of Ireland from 1987-1997’.

His last cap was on 15 November 1997 in an away defeat to Belgium (2-1{WCQ}) as a substitute, and in his international career Kelly scored 9 goals for the Republic of Ireland intotal. It seems fitting that veteran Irish striker, Kelly is in the news with veteran defender and Irish tea-mate Denis Irwin, who today agreed a one-year deal with Div I Wolves.
