Irish Abroad Results - 24/07/02

Last Night John O’Shea's man of the match performance kicked off the stream of Irish performances throughout the English and Scottish leagues this weekend. There were not many Irish goals and statistically in the Premiership both Irish international keepers failed to keep clean sheets, as Shay Given’s Newcastle were defeated by a single goal at Maine Road, and Dean Kiely’s Charlton Athletic took the three points back to the Valley, at the Reebok today with a score of 1-2.

Coincidentally the Republic of Irelands number 3 keeper Nick Colgan could not keep a clean sheet as his side were denied the win at home to Dundee United, score 2-1 in the S.P.L.

Also in the English Premiership today Clinton Morrison has yet to return from a groin injury, and was ruled out of the defeat at St Andrews where Blackburn took the three points on offer with a single goal.

Irish duo Jeff Kenna and Ken Cunningham were at the heart of the defence for the Blues, and the good news for Steve Bruce is that Morrison should be fit for the Everton clash this coming Wednesday. In English Div I: Republic of Ireland U21 international, Clive Clark, scored twice for Stoke City, in their 4-3 defeat to Preston. Scottish Div I: Falkirk’s veteran Irish striker Owen Coyle got one of six in their 1-6 thrashing of Alloa Athletic.
