Partridge stays at Highfield for season

Richie Partridge has received the nod from Liverpool, allowing the former Republic of Ireland U21 to remain at Coventry City extended until the end of the season.

Partridge would have been at the end of his month loan-deal this week, but Liverpool's first team and reserve coaches, 'McAuley' and 'Houllier', have given Gary McAllister the all clear to hold onto the Irish winger until the end of the season.

Partridge broke into the Anfield first team only the once, against Stoke City in the Worthington Cup, two years ago. The 22-year-old Dubliner will now have ample opportunities to feature in Coventry’s first team, and aid their push back to the top flight in the Premiership. Partridge is delighted with the extension to the loan deal, but optimistic that at the same time there may be a place for him at Anfield, come next term.

'I’ve enjoyed the month down here a great deal and I’m more than happy to stay for the rest of the season and get regular first team football. It’s a great league as you saw last night with two big teams playing against each other and it won’t do me any harm whatsoever. I can only gain from it and hopefully it’ll be a good stepping-stone for me to play for Liverpool.”

'I’ll be really surprised come the end of the season if we’re not at least in the play-offs. All the lads here are great and we’ve all got tunnel vision to get us into the top six places and hopefully come the end of the season we will be there.”
