In the midday kick off Leeds United travelled to the Priestfield Stadium to face Div I Gillingham while Gary Kelly was the only Irish man on the field however his nephew and International teammate Ian Harte was included as one the unused substitutes.

The visitors scored first with an Alan Smith free kick, but Sidibe struck home the equaliser with eight minutes of normal time to go. Gillingham will now travel to Elland Road for the replay, as the score remained the same {1-1} until the final whistle.

Sunderland were away at Ewood Park to Blackburn in a 6-goal thriller {3-3}. Irish Black Cats, Phil Babb and Kevin Kilbane, featured for the visitors, but Drogheda native Sean Thornton was not included in the squad after failing to shake off a thigh strain.

Roddy Collins {pictured above} Carlisle United put in a superb second half performance in the league today over Leyton Orient moving the Cumbrian Blues up one place to 22nd position and out of the relegation area.

The Game originally scheduled for Jan 11, but called off due to a frozen pitch, was uneventful in the first 45, having said that Dublin native midfielder Peter Murphy struck a 25-yard free kick just over the bar.

But three goals for the home side in the second half secured the points for the Blues. Farrell scored the first (53 mins), with the assist provided by Dubliner Richie Foran. Foran provided the pass again for Farrell’s second (70 mins) while Lee Madison scored his first goal for Carlisle in between (56 mins) with a 35-yard strike in to the top right hand corner.

There were six Irish men on the team sheet – Brian Shelly, Willie McDonagh {Sub for “Rundle”}, Brendan McGill {Sub for “Burt”} along with both Murphy & Foran while Des Byrne remained on the bench.
