Irwin the Molineux Menace / Dunne comeback looking good

Former Republic of Ireland defender, Denis Irwin, scored his second goal for Wolves today on the half hour mark with a superb 25 yard free kick.

Paul Butler remained on the bench for the home side, while Wolves’ Mark Clyde retained his central defence position. Wolves overall performance reflected the final score (4-1) against now second from bottom Grimsby, with a brilliant team effort.

Wolves Boss Dave Jones was, and has been, without the Republic of Irelands Mark Kennedy for some time, but the Dubliner is almost ready to return to action after undergoing hip surgery in Belgium

Also in Div I, David Connolly scored for Wimbledon against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane. Both sides shared the points (1-1), however the Don’s still hold onto their 21st place in the table, 4th from bottom.

Rotherham’s Alan Lee was on the score sheet today for the Millers in their 4-0 win over Stoke City at Millmoor. Lee is the third highest scorer in Div I, with nine goals for the season so far

In Div III Kevin Nugent got his third goal of the season for Orient in their 2-1 win over Bristol Rovers at the Memorial Ground.

Also in the same division Irish man - John Melligan, currently on loan from Wolves, scored for Kidderminster Harriers in their victory (2-1) over Cambridge United at Aggborough.

Richard Dunne comeback looking good

Richard Dunne kept Shaun Wright-Philips out of the Manchester City side which faced Birmingham at St. Andrews on Saturday, to earn the visitors their first away win of the season.

Dunne has been in the news for all of the wrong reasons as of late, after the Republic of Ireland defender was fined for an un-disclosed breach of the clubs dicipline, and subsequently placed on a special training programme under the guidance of the PFA and Man.City.

He last played for the Republic of Ireland against Denmark in Dublin 27/03/02, which was the 23 year old Dubliners 14th Cap. But has since been out of favour for the National side, initially with lack of first team football and then disciplinary issues with Manchester City.

Dunne was strong today, and looked fitter and sharper than he has looked in quite a while.
