Captain Breen in the Future?

Captain Breen?

According to one of Gary Breens close associates, the Republic of Ireland defender has turned down a dream move to Series A side Parma A.C. - because Mick McCarthy has told him he is the Republic of Irelands new Captain.

London born Irish man, Breen has been without a club since quitting Coventry at the end of season 01-02', and Mick has advised him that he would not be able to watch him play if he went to the Italian club. And it did not suit Gary to be out of sight, out of mind.

Breen has had four offers from clubs, with Leeds and West Ham United very interested. He recently refused a move to Everton, when David Moyes’ and co. at Goodison could not meet up with Gary's wage demands, even though he is on a Bosman free transfer. Breen has captained the Irish side in Roy Keanes’ absence, as too has the retired Steve Staunton and Birmingham City Defender, Kenny Cunningham. Breen has been capped 47 times at senior International level, has scored 6 goals, with the most recent goal in Ireland 3-0 annihilation of the Saudis in this years World Cup Finals. - © Owen O'Reilly, Newcastle upon Tyne
