Reddy loan deal extended / Derby release McArdle, Oldham release Kelly

Sunderland and Kilkenny born Striker Michael Reddy will remain at York City’s Bootham Crescent after Sunderland have agreed another month extension to his loan deal

Reddy has been sidelined with injury for over 18 months, and has been only a bit-part player because of this at the Stadium of Light. He made his competitive comeback at Darlington Road, seven weeks ago, however new Black Cats boss Howard Wilkinson has agreed the extension to the loan deal in a bid to guarantee Reddy first team football.

Reddy has just returned from a long-term injury (hamstring) and the former Republic of Ireland Under-21 international has already had loan spells at Swindon, Hull and Barnsley over the last three seasons. The 22-year-old made his debut for the York City's squad on Nov 1 this year against third Division Hartlepool.

Derby release Fiachra McArdle

Div I Derby County have released Dundalk native Fiachra McArdle in a bid to save money at the cash strapped east midlands club despite having almost two years left on is contract at Pride Park.

Rams boss John Gregory had the following to say on the 19-year old Irish mans departure:

“If we continued to keep him (Fiachra) here with no opportunity of him ever playing in the first team then in a way we are conning him into thinking he is part of the plans here.”

“I don’t want to waste his time keeping him around playing the odd reserve match from time to time. For his own benefit he needs to be looking for regular football elsewhere and from a financial point of view we have looked after him. He now has a few pennies in his pocket that he would not normally have at this stage of his career and we have saved a few quid on his contract.”

Oldham release Gary Kelly

Division II Oldham Athletic has released Irish goalkeeper Gary Kelly after agreeing a compensation package with the Professional Footballers Association (PFA).

Oldham are waiting on a loan that will permit the club to pay off the balance of Kelly’s contract - He will then become a free agent. Gary is the older brother of former Blackburn and former Irish international keeper Alan Kelly.

Formerly of Newcastle(trainee), Blackpool, Bury and West Ham (Loan), Gary was at Oldham since 1996 and was subsequently Oldham’s longest serving player, but he failed to feature in the first team plans of ‘Latics’ boss Iain Dowie.

Preston born, Gary will turn 37 years-of-age on his next Birthday.
