Healys services officially requested

A name that every Irish person has become familiar with over the past week, Brendan Menton (FAI General Secretary) has revealed that the FAI now has formally requested permission, to call Colin Healy into the squad in place of Roy Keane.

The formal application was put on hold to see how the Roy Keane situation would progress. However the application has now been made to FIFA on the Colin Healy issue. He was NOT named in Mick McCarthys' original 23 man squad, but was called into the squad last week when Keane first asked to leave the camp. Then when Keane changed his mind, the Celtic midfielder was told he would not be needed.

However, events which occured since then have meant that his services may be required yet again. The deadline for naming World Cup squads has now passed, so a special dispensation is needed for the player to join the squad.

Healy made his debut against Russia in February winning the man of the match award and went on to play a part against Denmark and the USA. Loyalty on Mick McCarthy part left him out of the World Cup squad, instead remaining loyal to those players who had participated in the qualification campaign, but like Reid, he could possibly now earn a late call-up to the side.
