Niall Quinn will swap the green of Ireland for the red and white of Sunderland at half-time of his forthcoming tribute match at the Stadium of Light. Both Sunderland and Republic of Ireland supporters are being promised a night to remember at Quinn’s game, which takes place on Tuesday, May 14.

'A Night with Niall’ is set to be a fun-filled spectacular for supporters of all ages and, in line with Sunderland’s tradition, will be an event for all the family to celebrate Quinn’s international career in a bid to raise £1 million for children’s charities. The charities benefiting from this event will be The Sunderland Hospital for sick children - Sunderland and Our Ladys Hospital for sick children - Dublin. But theres more. Niall has just announced that a third and final charity will benefit too, being that of a project for street children in Calcutta. Yes, as far away as India.

The Republic of Ireland record goalscorer of 21 Goals, and Sunderland star is once again breaking with tradition by giving money from his match to sponsor the GOAL’s Street Children Programme in India. The aim of the project is to improve the quality of life for impoverished children in urban districts.

Niall has received cards of thanks from the children directly helped by this event also, and these will be presented to the players as a momento. Other testimonials' involve the player presenting his team mates' with a watch, or some other keep-sake. And its taken and Irishman to publically announce this way of thanking the Footballing world for all of his time spent in it.

The match will be kicked off in style by Sunderland legend Charlie Hurley along with our own Republic of Ireland hero Jack Charlton
