National Bank ~ Time: 1804 **=sound fx
After the Revolutionary war, the United States faced a mountain of debt, many of the states were printing their own currency, Alexander Hamilton seen the need for one central bank and one standard of currency, the First National Bank was found with his guidance in Philadelphia, in 1795 this grand building, the oldest building in America with a "classical" facade , became the home to the First National Bank.** Questions about his birth, honesty and integrity always seemed to follow Hamilton even though he was an honest and honorable man who often stated what was on his mind, it was this forthrightness that led to a duel with Aaron Burr, in Weehawkin New Jersey on July 11 1804, Hamilton was mortally wounded and died the next day, deep in debt and leaving behind his wife Elizabeth and several children. In the days after his death, it was reported that the ghost of Alexander Hamilton's spirit was seen haunting the First National Bank, in 1811 Stephen Girard brought the bank building and had a Catholic priest bless the premises, there were only a few reports after that of people seeing Hamilton's spirit.
