The Chupacabra Legend
According to the modern legend the chupacabra originated on the Island of Puerto Rico. Some accounts however, place its origin in the jungles of South America or Mexico. The creature's name comes from its reputation for sucking the blood from goats. There are reports that the chupacabra has also attacked other animals as well, including dogs and sheep. No attacks on humans have been recorded however. Appearance ![]() The chupacabra is often described as a strange panther-like creature. Descriptions of its color vary from green to dark grayish. The chupacabra is believed to be a bipedal animal (stands upright on two legs) that stands about a meter tall. It is also to reported to have red eyes, a large lizard-like tongue, fangs, and spikes on its back leading down to its tail. Wings are often included as part of the chupacabra's physical makeup. Traits The chupacabra is a nocturnal creature that targets smaller livestock as its prey. Common among the reported incidents is the discovery of victim animals with puncture wounds in their necks and most, if not all, of their blood drained. In most cases there are no signs of foot tracks or blood in the immediate area surrounding the dead animal. Some chupacabra observers postulate that the creature walks. Others speculate that it flies or that it hops like a kangaroo. Origins There are a wide range of theories as to the origins of the chupacabra. Some who study chupacabra incidents suppose the creature is a newer species, possibly a relative of the panther. Others say it is some sort of dinosaur that has survived. Certain chupacabra buffs are convinced that the creatures are alien in origin, that is, that they came from a distant planet or galaxy and were left on earth by alien beings.
